The Citadel of Machupicchu, built in the fifteenth century during the reign of Pachacutec represents a masterpiece of ancient architecture, engineering and art in perfect harmony with the Nature, the most important legacy the Incas left to the New World. It was abandoned during the second half of the sixteenth century; However, it was never lost as it was occasionally visited and inhabited by Inca descendants. In 1911 Professor and explorer Hiram Bingham visited the Citadel and was impressed with its beauty and majesty. The following year he returned with a multidisciplinary team of professionals who carried out excavations and investigations in the Lost City of the Incas.
Around 4:00 am we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to transfer you by tourist bus to the train station located in Ollantaytambo (1 hour and 40 minutes approximately from the city of Cusco), where we will take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes (2000 masl), the train ride (1 hour and 40 minutes) offers an impressive scenic beauty through amazing andean landscapes and lush tropical forests. In Aguas Calientes our guide will be waiting for us. With our guide we will walk to the bus station to take our bus and ascend 400 meters of altitude.
After a 30-minute drive we will arrive at the “Citadel of Machupichu”, known worldwide as the Lost City of the Incas. Once inside, the guide will start with the guided tour of the main attractions such as: The Temple of the Sun, The House of the Guardian, the Temple of the Three Windows, The Main Temple, the Pyramid of the Intihuatana, The Sacred Rock, the Enclosure of the Water Mirrors, Taking between 2 to 3 hours of excursion full of history and magic experiences.
After the visit to Machupichu we will return to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch not included, in the afternoon we will take our train back to Ollantaytambo, once in Ollantaytambo we will take our bus back to our hotel in Cusco.
