The sacred valley of the Incas is historically known as the Heart of the Pachamama (Mother Earth). Located 35 kilometers from the city of Cusco sits on the banks of the Urubamba River and is surrounded by Imposing Mountains and Glaciers. This river in its beginnings is called Vilcanota that comes from the Quechua word Willcamayu and means Sacred River. The Incas built villages, agricultural centers, aqueducts, ceremonial centers, temples and fortresses along its banks. This Valley was highly appreciated by the Incas due to its geographical and climatic goodness; it was one of the main points of production for the richness and fertility of its lands becoming the main supplier of food to the Inca empire.
The Sacred Valley has traditional Villages (Pueblitos) and incomparable landscapes, where you will see fields with Llamas, Alpacas, Sheep, Cows as well as crops of corn, potatoes, quinoa, vegetables, fruits and flowers growing harmonically in the Heart of the Pachamama.
The climate of the Sacred Valley is usually pleasant and the altitude is lower than the valley of Cusco, this makes it the ideal place to acclimate upon arrival.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am, then we will travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, on the way we will visit the Living Museum of South American Camelids (Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas and Guanacos) known as Manos de la Comunidad, where you can learn more about these beautiful animals native to the South American Andes, we will also enjoy a colorful Gallery of fabrics and garments worked with Alpaca fiber, Baby Alpaca and Vicuña.
We will continue our excursion to the Archaeological Park of Pisac, where we can admire the great system of agricultural terraces used by the Incas to cultivate, acclimatize and domesticate a great variety of potatoes, quinoa, corn and others. We will also see one of the largest Inca cemeteries with more than 3000 Inca tombs.
We will also visit the native market of the town of Pisac where we can appreciate the different forms of commerce and crafts.
Afterwards, our next stop will be in Urubamba traveling along the banks of the Vilcanota River, where we will enjoy beautiful landscapes and have different options for Lunch.
After lunch, we will travel to Ollantaytambo, known as the last living Inca village, where the constructions preserve their original walls, it was one of the last Bastions of Inca Resistance used against the Conquistadors.
We will have the option to explore the ceremonial sector with its beautiful water fountains and climb towards the spectacular Temple of the Sun built by the Incas.
After the tour in Ollantaytambo, we will return to Cusco at approximately 6:30pm and drop you off at your hotel.
